Hello, All!
My name is Kathryn Dopkins, and I am thrilled to be hired as Integrative Care Assistant at Providence Place.
A little about me:
I was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and have lived most of my life in Western Wisconsin (but ask me where I went to kindergarten.) My husband and I live in rural Ellsworth, where we raised our son. We have a huge garden—I love to share produce—and we raise ducks! So fun!
Before getting into nursing, I went to school for landscaping and greenhouse management. I had a small plant business called “Enchanted Florist,” working mainly with indoor tropical plants. I’m still a “Plant Lady!” I find that nature has much to teach us, and inspires—for example, just looking at the fall colors, and the beauty of a moonlit night.
I went to St. Catherine University for my BSN. From there, I worked as staff nurse at U-MN, Fairview TCU for 16 years, and loved it! I completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice, Integrative Health & Healing specialty at the University of Minnesota in 2017. I was also a hospice nurse for the Mayo System in La Crosse, Wisconsin, before landing at Providence Place.
I have found that my life experiences (i.e. being a care-giving mom, nurse, observer of nature, curious learner) combined with providing integrative therapies such as Reiki/Healing Touch, Guided Imagery, and light massage to be powerful techniques to connect with people, allowing relaxation and natural healing to take place.
More: I enjoy Minneapolis, kayaking lakes and rivers, hiking, and travel. (What’s the most interesting place you have been?) I also love art, music, and to dance.
Please contact me with thoughts or referrals at the Integrative Care office: 612-238-2557. Email: [email protected]. Or stop by room 132, next to the meditation room. I am looking forward to collaborating with you on behalf of our residents. Also, I look forward to hearing your story, and learning about what inspires YOU!
Be Well,
Kathryn
